I can book my flight, I can find a ride to the airport I checked in online that should save some time I always get to the gate too early but that’s okay Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up and wait The air is one big road, air traffic control gives us the go ahead Pilot says we’re close, city lights below I know that we’ll get there safe but I’m nervous anyway Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up and wait The world has grown impatient Either brand new or ancient We want more and more and more for less and less and less We take pictures of our food We complain on the internet Like we’re searching for a place Hurry up and wait I’m done making lists, I’m done rubbing sticks to get a fire going Everything has gone to sh*t, it wasn’t always like this But I don’t expect a change before I get to the baggage claim Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up and wait Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up and wait Hurry up, hurry up, hurry up and wait

Downtown 03:19
I take the freeway every time But I know that the side streets could offer the shortcut I need I stay inside the lines Watching the traffic creep towards exit 23, that drops me off Downtown I’ve been spending more of my time downtown I keep a piece of my heart above a boulevard A boulevard downtown I speed through yellow lights Skyscrapers and history, Sidewalks and poverty I leave my car outside There’s somebody waiting for me She lives next to a factory, a factory Downtown I’ve been spending more of my time downtown I keep a piece of my heart above a boulevard A boulevard downtown Someone I want to be with makes it worth the trip It’s worth the gas I burn, the parking tickets I’ve earned ATM fees to pay, to pay for expensive drinks In my favorite part of town Sit there until the place shuts down I take the freeway late at night I’ve got to be up early I’ve got to be getting to sleep, I have to leave Downtown I’ve been spending more of my time downtown I keep a piece of my heart above a boulevard A boulevard downtown

The Bridge 03:32
Built to last Not everything is built to last “And yet the bridge is beautiful” And yet the bridge is beautiful The towers stand straight, Strange to think that Those stones go down All the way under the ground And they’re not going anywhere They’re not going anywhere Just above the sand A river that never ends And yet the bridge will never fall And yet the bridge will never fall The towers will not shake, It’s strange to think that Those stones go down All the way under the ground And they’re not going anywhere They’re not going anywhere

Born in the winter of 73 Third down the line in the family A young man carrying an old book, written in Greek Made friends without making enemies He gave a long speech in the cold rain He rode a white horse in the parade Everyone got a handshake For thirty one days He lived a long life, had a good wife, had kids of his own Nine that lived to be full grown He carried the banner, he was born to lead Led his army to a victory A general and a fighter A gentleman and a father He fell when he couldn’t go higher After thirty one days He was just getting started When he joined the dearly departed It seems that history forgot him After thirty one days Spoke his last words with his last breath A sense of satisfaction right before He passed away After thirty one days His grandson got the same job William Henry would have been proud But he never found out, After thirty one days The last words of a man who fought in three wars: “I ask for nothing more” – William Henry Harrison, April 4, 1841

do you remember elmer ellsworth? he met his maker in the first verse of an epic battle that we pass on so we don't forget it, we won't forget it he saw the colors from the window the enemy flag put on a free show he led a march through the front door because he couldn't let it, he couldn't let it fly he ripped the flag from the flagpole one month after turning twenty four if you have your faith at the right time then you won't regret it, you won't regret it on the way out the front door he became the face of a new war one to the chest and he went down he died in a minute, the first minute the first of many to make that fall the first of many to answer the call the first of many to make that fall the first of many to answer the call word got out and spread fast there was a battle cry at last shot down in cold blood they won't stand it, they were ready when the president sat down he knew how to make a mother proud wrote a letter with his own hand he addressed it, then he sent it off the first of many to make that fall the first of many to answer the call the first of many to make that fall the first of many to answer the call do you remember elmer ellsworth? he met his maker in the first verse of an epic battle that we pass down/on so we don't forget it, won't forget it a funeral in the white house in the east room he drew a big crowd his name was shouted out loud so we won't forget it, we won't forget him

Magellan 03:43
I was not born under a rock But I was born under the moon I know that doesn’t make me special My mother said I had potential I know that doesn’t make me special either way When I pushed off of the dock I could feel the ocean starting to move Something underneath the surface Telling me that I found my purpose Something underneath the surface to help me along If I make it far enough I’ll finish where I started from Like Magellan sailing to the edge of the earth I’ll be coming back around Like Magellan sailing to the edge of the earth When I come back around, I’m gonna kiss the ground Thankful that the world is round after all I look up to all of the stars Over open water deeper than blue Somehow I got lost thinking Mentally I started sinking Somehow I’m not sure that thinking will bail me out Like Magellan sailing to the edge of the earth I’ll be coming back around Like Magellan sailing to the edge of the earth When I come back around, I’m gonna kiss the ground Thankful that the world is round after all After all, Someone has to be the first After I’m gone, I need you to pray to God that this works If I make it far enough I’ll finish where I started from I was born on top of a rock Now I sail under the moon Somewhere over the horizon I know that the sun was shining Somewhere over the horizon either way

I hold myself accountable I always try to be responsible for what I do But I can’t take the fall I think I am reliable I could say what you already know But I won’t before I lose it all I place my bet I check my hand I place my bet I check my hand I should fold what I hold I should fold what I hold before I lose it all The sun is rising on another road I change directions and I lose control But I’ll come back for more, I dive deep but I sink slow My lungs are burning but I won’t let go Can I stall before I lose it all ? I place my bet I check my hand I place my bet I check my hand I should fold what I hold I should fold what I hold before I lose it all I place my bet I check my hand I place my bet I check my hand I should fold what I hold I should fold what I hold before I lose it all

I grew up near a sign that read: “This marks the spot where a President Was born and raised” My only claim to fame Legend has it they were so poor He did not own shoes til he turned four In the past this was a different place As for me I must have walked past those same oak trees Back then they had fewer rings So much else has changed But some things are the same A landscape James would not recognize Dirt paths covered with painted lines There’s a parking lot by the cabin in the woods A man of science, an optimist In a time when this was the wilderness Now the rolling hills hide mansions behind gates As for me I must have skipped rocks on the same creek Back then the water was safe to drink So much else has changed But some things are the same Left town at twenty eight It’s a big world out there, and it’s getting late He had dreamt of this In the quiet of the night Like it was written in the stars As for me I found myself under that same sky Back then Ohio had darker nights The stars are out of reach But it doesn’t hurt to dream Be careful what you don’t wish for You just might get it
