William McKinley left college quickly
He pretended to be sick but I’m not buying it.
I think he just missed his mom and he needed an excuse to come home
Not long after he was a soldier
He had to leave the nest, he had to grow up fast

He didn’t golf, curse, gamble or lie
Up to 10 cigars a day was his vice
No scandals, no paramours
He was the last president to have fought in the Civil War

There’s a high school in Hawaii named for McKinley
Cities and counties, a highway in the Phillipines
A fitting tribute to the man

First Lady Ida had seizures often
At a dinner once william covered up her face with a napkin like nothing was wrong
He took it off when she was done
Like no one saw her, must have been awkward

a monument to his name, testament to his fame

Recently they changed it back, so the Mount McKinley era ends
Call it Denali, like the natives did
I think that our man would understand.
